ACT4Hunger was founded on 11 May 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, as a joint platform with Ammucare and Mohanji Foundation. Its stated motto is food beyond species — set down at the time as being “in recognition of the ancient values of honoring all species and acknowledging hunger as a universal emotion”.

That is why ACT's tables count kilograms of food for animals alongside meals for people, and why every meal is plant-based. The first distribution under the banner was in Qatar on 19 May 2020, eight days after the platform was formed.

Today it runs as community kitchens, food pantries and ration distribution across ACT's country teams — from a weekly meal for people sleeping rough in Skopje, to the Frankfort Community Food Pantry in Ohio, to dry rations for dormitory workers in the UAE.
