Questions

Frequently asked

General

  • What is ACT Foundation?

ACT Foundation International is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (No. 1149049). Founded by Mohanji in India in 2003 as a trust, ACT expanded globally in 2012 and established its international registration in the UK in 2024.

Today, ACT's independent volunteer teams operate in over 25 countries, delivering programmes that support people, animals and communities. Its work spans food distribution and school meals, animal welfare, tree planting, cataract surgery, disaster relief, scholarships and community care.

  • Where does ACT work?

ACT works through country teams in Australia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Ecuador, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Nepal, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Peru, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, UAE, the United Kingdom and the United States. See “Where ACT works” on the homepage for the current list.

Donations

  • How do I give, and what can I give to?

Choose a place on the Donate page — a school kitchen, a well, a neonatal ward — or select “Where it's needed most” and we direct the gift where it is most needed. The site accepts gifts in euros; if you would rather give in another currency, write to info@actfoundation.org.

  • Can I give to one country or one programme?

Yes. Every campaign on the site is a specific place — a kitchen at Nonoti, the well at Batticaloa, the neonatal ward in Belgrade. Give from that campaign's page and your gift is earmarked to that place by name and echoed in your receipt.

Tax & receipts

  • Is my donation tax-deductible?

ACT does not currently claim tax relief in any jurisdiction on your behalf — including UK Gift Aid, US 501(c)(3) equivalence, Indian 80-G or Australian DGR status. If you believe your gift may qualify in your country, please write to us before giving so we can confirm whether we are in a position to help.

  • Will I get a receipt?

Yes. Every gift is receipted by email once the payment settles. The receipt names the amount, the date, and the place you gave to. (The site's donation form is currently a template that takes no payment; when payments go live, receipts will follow.)

Volunteering

  • How do I volunteer?

Email volunteer@actfoundation.org and tell us which country you're based in and how you'd like to contribute. Visit our Volunteer page to explore opportunities with country teams currently welcoming volunteers and connect with the relevant team lead.

  • Do I need experience or a particular skill?

No specific experience is needed to volunteer with ACT. Our teams welcome people who want to contribute their time, skills and ideas in ways that suit their interests and availability. From preparing meals and supporting deliveries to teaching, tree planting, fundraising, translation and photography.

Get in touch with your country team lead and tell them how you'd like to contribute.
