Stories from the field

Small acts, big moments.

One moment from each year, in the country team’s own words.

  • Members of the Arhuaco community in white traditional dress stand with an ACT volunteer behind sacks of food and skeins of yarn laid out on banana leaves, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia.

    Guardians of Mother Earth

For the Arhuaco community in the Sierra Nevada, getting food is not simple. Supplies travel by truck, then for hours by mule, across difficult terrain to reach communities far from regular food supplies. When the food finally arrives, it means more than a meal, it means support where access is difficult.

  • A baby in a bright patterned dress and white headwrap sits in the sun holding a teddy bear wearing an ACT Foundation T-shirt, in South Africa.

    No child left behind

Christmas was planned for 300 children. More than 600 came. Every child was fed and received a gift.

  • ACT Foundation volunteers in orange vests and shirts stand with hospital staff in white coats, a woman holding a baby and a young boy, in Serbia.

    For the tiniest heroes

A volunteer saw the conditions in Serbia’s only unit for premature babies and started a campaign. By August, €5,200 worth of monitoring equipment had reached the ward.
