The Guardians of the Mother Earth
Food rations carried by truck, then by mule, to the Wiwa, Arhuaco and Kogi communities of the Sierra Nevada.
In the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, several ancient cultures continue to hold themselves responsible for the health of the Earth. ACT Colombia visited the Wiwa, Arhuaco and Kogi communities on eight occasions over the past year.
Getting there is most of the work. Reaching the Ukungeka community of the Arhuaco means leaving before dawn by truck, then climbing a couple of hours more with mules and donkeys. The Wiwa community is about fifteen hours further still. Alongside food, the team brings yarn and natural medicine.
The deliveries are funded by the ACT Foundation USA team.
