More cataract surgeries in Sri Lanka
Lenses and surgical supplies at the Sri Lankan hospitals ACT works with. One operation, and the problem is over.
Prototype for review. Some pages carry drafted content pending legal or ACT sign-off (privacy, terms, refund policy). Annual report PDFs and a handful of photographs are still to be uploaded. Design system
Launched 9 November 2022. Lenses and surgical supplies for cataract operations people could not otherwise afford — 1,106 of them so far, across three hospitals.
Programme launch: 9 November 2022.
Hospitals: Nawalapitiya and Kilinochchi at launch, later Kilinochchi Hospital and Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
ACT Sri Lanka runs ACT4Vision with the ACT UK team, providing the essential medical consumables — lenses and surgical supplies — that cataract surgery needs. The hospitals do the operating; ACT removes the reason a patient would be turned away.
143 surgeries followed in 2022, 536 in 2023, 372 at Kilinochchi Hospital in 2024 and 55 at Jaffna Teaching Hospital in 2025 — 1,106 in all. Cataract blindness is one of the few conditions where a single funded operation ends the problem for good.
