Patients wearing eye shields after cataract surgery wait along a hospital corridor in Sri Lanka as nursing staff stand by.

ACT4Vision launched on 9 November 2022 with two hospitals, in the underprivileged towns of Nawalapitiya and Kilinochchi. ACT supplies the lenses and surgical consumables; the hospitals operate. 1,106 surgeries have been funded since — 143 in 2022, 536 in 2023, 372 at Kilinochchi Hospital in 2024 and 55 at Jaffna Teaching Hospital in 2025.

Cataract blindness is one of the few things a single funded operation ends for good. The cost is the consumables, and the queue is as long as the funding is short.
