Twice-weekly meals for overseas students in London, around half of whom skip at least one meal a day.
Every year thousands of overseas students arrive in London with big ambitions. Rising living costs, high tuition fees, expensive accommodation and limited part-time work leave many under serious financial pressure; recent studies put around half of students skipping at least one meal a day, with many relying on food banks.
After a visit to King’s College London, ACT Foundation and Mohanji Foundation UK, in collaboration with INSA, launched the Student Lunch Programme in December. It currently runs twice a week.
Early feedback has been strongly positive. The programme offers not only food but a sense of care, dignity and community — which for a student far from home is much of the point.
