Earthquake Relief Program
Volunteers who drive to the epicentre — Croatia, Turkey, Morocco, Bangkok.
A mighty earthquake hit Croatia at the very end of 2020. On New Year’s Eve the ACT Croatia team travelled to remote muddy villages where no aid had reached, and delivered help while the tremors were still being felt. ACT teams across the Balkans joined the effort. In early January 2021 the team delivered construction material to five families whose houses had been damaged, and that summer thirty-two children from the badly hit Glina area were given a seven-day camp on the coast.
After the 2023 earthquake in Turkey, volunteers who had gained disaster experience during ACT4Ukraine drove from Serbia with a minivan of humanitarian aid. Local volunteers helped them reach remote areas outside the cities where no aid had arrived. In seventeen days the team distributed 5,094 kilograms of aid, including more than four tonnes of food, 650 blankets, 70 heaters, stoves, wood burners, clothes, toys and toiletries.
Later that year the newly formed ACT4Morocco team, supported by Dean Hassan of the GEO Marrakesh business school and his team, reached the most remote mountain villages nearest the epicentre to find what aid was possible before the winter snowfall. In April 2025 ACT Thailand supplied food to rescue teams working at a Bangkok earthquake site.
