Two more schools in Sri Lanka

ACT has been asked to bring the Sri Lankan school meal to two more schools. The ask came from the schools.

Two more schools in Sri Lanka

In Mannar, Nuwara Eliya and Vavuniya, 150,688 meals have been served since March 2023. Attendance at the schools has risen to 75%, and children fainting during morning physical education has fallen to nearly zero.

Proposals have now been received to extend the programme to two more schools in the region. In ACT’s own words the requests are “driven by demonstrated results and community demand” — the schools asked because they had watched it work down the road.

The meals are cooked on site by local women employed on contract, so a new school also means new paid work in that village.
